Showing up.

I’ve made a commitment to post at least 1-3 blog posts on this site daily for at least a year. The purpose of doing this is to show not only myself but also the reader, the value of showing up imperfectly but consistently for a year. I don’t think anyone would be surprised to know that consistency will always trump the occasional strike of genius. But we have a tendency to expect genius without showing up over and over again.

It’s important to remember that life is not like instagram. Your daily life isn’t going to look like a perfectly curated edited instagram profile. Much of life is ups and downs, and a lot of times it doesn’t even make sense. That’s completely normal, it’s the comparing it to social medias perfectionism that makes life seem chaotic. The more we can work on projects consistently and imperfectly, the better we become and the better our life becomes.

The goal is just to get better. It’s hard to explain how good it feels to know that you’re improving. And to know that you’re showing up and doing something that you care about just for you. We have to get back to that. A place where we do things just for ourselves and no longer for validation or acceptance. We don’t need permission to have something just for ourselves and you’re not a bad person for wanting something just for yourself. You do a lot of things for people already. Start doing something that you love just for you. You can even share it if you want, but do it with the freedom of not needing anything in return. Do it as a gift with no expectations.

I think that’s what many people are after. Finding the things that they love so much that the only reassurance they need is their own. They don’t need or want money, praise, awards, validation, nothing. Just complete presence in a project that they can get lost in. That’s what it means to be who you truly are. The version of yourself that is pure, authentic, and imperfect. That’s what is amazing about human beings. How can something imperfect make something that appears to be a masterpiece? Its because the greatness and the imperfections are partners in this game of life. You need to see a flaw to not notice when something is great and you need greatness to know what a flaw looks like. Once you accept that both are necessary to an amazing experience, you realize that their is no right or wrong way to do things. There’s just doing what you love to do and being the person that you love to be.
