Why Running?
What might someone get from running everyday? For starters it’s a great workout. It’s hard enough to not always want to do it, but it’s easy enough to never have an excuse on why you can’t. That’s why I chose it. Because I knew that under 99% of conditions, I could still find time to complete something I committed to. There was a point where I was pushing myself to see how fast I could get but after a while my body told me that I shouldn’t be pushing it at its max every single day. So I had to choose, consistency or max effort. I chose consistency because id rather be able to run at least a mile everyday than not be able to run at all.
That’s where I derive the value of doing this. Having a habit of running every single day for now 200 plus days in a row, and the thought of not doing it never even coming to mind is what I get from this. Because we can all relate to not doing things even when they’re easy. In fact, the easy things are usually the easiest to not do simply because of how easy they are. We assume that easy things aren’t valuable so doing them won’t mean anything, but that’s not true. It’s the little things compounded over time that have the biggest results in our life.
We don’t have to have to be extraordinary to be awesome people. We just have to do the extra - ordinary things consistently (that’s super cheesy and cliche I know, but I’ve always wanted to say that so here it is lol). So that’s what you can get from doing something that’s mildly challenging but easy enough to do without any internal resistance or excuses. You get into the habit of habitualizing all things in your life that are valuable, and it no longer feels like a burden. It becomes a part of who you are. You’re the type of person that has habits that naturally keep you on the path you wan’t to be on.
Choose something that has a balance of challenge, ease, and practicality to it. Something that will hold value to you. Something that can be done anywhere, at anytime, and everyday. Something you can be proud of. Over time it will become second nature, and you can forever build on the foundation you are a type of person who can be described as consistent and committed.
